A new land and a new adventure begins our journey as our newcomer, May, is on her way to meet her father's friend, Professor Birch and choose her first pokemon to begin her journey as a pokemon trainer. She is ten years old and resides from the Hoenn region and is mostly interested in traveling and seeing new places. But just as May continues down the bike trail, a Duskull appears frightening her and sending May down a hill uncontrollabaly until she smashes into a tree as she then regrets not wearing a helmet. She doesn't really like pokemon but she is just becoming a trainer for the traveling and adventure. As May continues bike riding along the trail, she comes to a stop at the top of a cliff where the magestic waters of Little Root Town can be seen.

Ash continues his quest to the Hoenn Region as a determined trainer but his friend, Pikachu, is very ill at the moment and is caring to his every need. Jessie, James, and Meowth come on the scene as James questions about Little Root Town and Jessie recalls her past times in the city. Both Meowth and James are confused about Jessie's rambling about Little Root Town, and questions if she has been here before. She then continues on talking about their current path with capturing Pikachu and have they ever truly blasted off at the speed of light as James questions if she is speaking hypathetically.

After successfully docking into town, Ash then asks a local where the Pokemon Center is but he replies back with that the town doesn't have one. He now must find another way to rid Pikachu of it's unneeded electricity and sickness. Ash then decides to place a call to Professor Birch but his assistant states that Birch isn't available at the moment. Pikachu is comforted by Ash saying that everything will be just fine now. He then looks at the glistening water of Little Root Town and the many bird pokemon flying in the sky.

But just as Pikachu's and Ash's hopes are about to fade away, a car comes screeching down the road. Professor Birch seems to be driving the vehicle as he comes to a stop and quickly examines Pikachu. Birch states that Pikachu is not in a stable condition and must be brought to his laboratory immediately. Electricity is violently emmiting from Pikachu's electrical sacks as they continue their course down the road as Birch diagnoses Pikachu's illness as Electrical Discharge. "Pikachu is unable to release its electricity regularly so it randomly sparks. "It's a serious problem that sometimes occurs among electric types" - Professor Birch. Birch then questions Ash asking him if Pikachu has been exposed to any magnetic fields. He then recalls a moment where Pikachu was strapped to a magnet as Birch predicts that it probably was an electromagnet. Pikachu then begins acting strange as its high fever is confusing it. Random sparks continue to emit from Pikachu's electrical sacs as Birch decides to take a shortcut through the woods to the laboratory. During the ride, Ash continues to comfort Pikachu that he will be cured in a very short time.

Pikachu is then taken into Birch's laboratory where his assistant has set up a device that will rid Pikachu of all its trapped electricity. The application is set and powered on but just as it seems to be working, the devices electrical capacity quickly overseeds regulated amounts and the device shatters sending Pikachu into a psychotic rage. Pikachu then escapes out the window that was also destroyed from the explosion and escapes from the laboratory and his trainer. Birch questions Ash asking if he has any pokemon that are strong against Electric type and he replies back stating that he doesn't have any other pokemon with him. Birch then collects his pokeballs and continues after Ash and Pikachu but Birch's assistant, Joshua, questions why he is taking the pokeballs as they were set aside for May. Birch tells Joshua to notify May to wait at the laboratory and wait for his safe return.

Team Rocket is in a confused state questioning on Pikachu's strange actions and as Jessie still seems to be in a depressed state. Birch finally catches up to Ash explaining to him that Pikachu's internal electricity is too high and a disturbance of any kind into Pikachu's electrical field could cause a massive explosion if distrubed. His fears are worsened as he could lose his best friend and hastens to catch up to Pikachu. Birch and Ash decide to split up as they will have better luck scouting for and locating Pikachu. May finally arrives at the laboratory and tells Joshua that she is looking for Professor Birch. Joshua tells her that Birch had an emergency in the mountains and asks for her to stay there. She then speeds off on her bike stating that she's never been much good at waiting.

Ash is cautiosly looking for Pikachu as Birch is also searching for Pikachu in another location. Birch slips on top of a clifftop that he is standing on and slides down the rock structure and ontop of a Poochyena. Birch responds with a polite greeting to Poochyena but Poochyena replies back with a howl calling his comrades. Birch identifies their greeting as neither friendly nor sad and then notices that their greeting has to be an angry greeting. The Poochyena and Birch then continue to chase each other around and Birch frantically yells for help. He climbs into a tree just escaping the Poochyena's grasp while May successfully finds Birch in the mountains. Birch then asks May to open his bag that he dropped while sliding down the hill and to select a pokeball.

May is quickly confused about which pokeball to select and Birch states that any pokeball will do. May randomly chooses a pokeball and releases it's contents which came out to be a Mudkip. Despite her battling expierence, she doesn't know what to do after you've released a pokemon so Birch explains to her to tell Mudkip to use one of its attacks. May commands Mudkip to use Water Gun but fails to state the target so Mudkip launches a stream of water at her. She is now drenched and wet and asks Birch if that was supposed to happen while Birch has a depressing look on his face. Birch's tree branch begins to crack and he falls to the ground and the chasing between Birch and the Poochyena begins again. He then calls Mudkip down to the ground and commands it to use Water Gun on the Poochyena. Mudkip floods the Poochyena with a river of water as they scamper away off into the distance. Birch then recalls Mudkip back into his pokeball and thanks May for all of her help.

She then goes on to ask why Birch was up in that tree and what he was doing. Pikachu is slowly dragging through the tall grass as Ash continues to call for it. Pikachu's high fever is confusing it and distorting its vision of Ash as it unleashes an electrifying thunderbolt towards him. Birch states that Pikachu's buildup is reaching critical mass and it might explode. Intense electrical shocks emit from Pikachu as Ash tells him that they must get back to the laboratory right away. Pikachu then starts into a dash through the grass and jumps off the cliff. Ash continues after Pikachu also decending off the cliff to save Pikachu.

He successfully catches Pikachu and grasps a tree branch growing out of the bottomside of the cliff. Ash tells Pikachu that he is going to help him with his illness and not to worry as dangerous electrical sparks are still emitting from Pikachu. A rope appears besides Ash as Birch and May tell him to quickly climb the rope to safety. He continues to climb the rope as Birch and May pull him to safety. While Ash is firmly holding Pikachu in his arms, Pikachu attempts to escape and delivers a harsh bite to Ash's arm.

Pikachu then seems to calm down and Ash confirms to Pikachu that he will be alright and to hang on. They successfully reach the top of the cliff when Ash thanks Birch and May for their help.

Pikachu seems to be coming around to its sensibility as it notices its bite to Satoshi's arm and starts to lick it. Ash says that he is fine and he knows that Pikachu didn't mean to hurt him. Still in her depressing state, Jessie, James, and Meowth appear on the scene with a new meca. A spout of poems and phrases can be heard from this trios mouth as they set the scene with their rhyme. Birch and May are confused who this group is as Ash explains that they are always up to mischief and always attempt to capture Pikachu.

Meowth is quick to question where all of Pikachu's thunderbolts are. They seem to be very confident in their new found plan as Meowth goes on to explain that he has been doing his research. He has developed a machine that no matter how high the volts go the mecha will absorb them. Team Rocket then quickly captures Pikachu with a grasping device hidden within their machine and two electrical absorbtion pads are applied to Pikachu's sacs. A show of sparks and brilliant lights can be seen going throughout their mecha as Meowth goes on to laugh at Pikachu's efforts to stop their plan. The electrical meter still continues to climb as Jessie and James are surprised that their plan might actually work. Team Rocket's mecha can stand alot more electrical input than Birch's device could but still couldn't hold to stand all of Pikachu's astounding electrical output. Meowth goes on to laugh hysterically as their plan is about to fail. Pikachu regains his electrical output control as the color of electricity turns from a offset orange to the brilliant yellow usually given off by this electrical creature. A thunderbolt richochets off of Team Rocket's mecha and manages to fry May's bike just like it did to Misty's in the Kanto region. Jessie has now overcome her depression state as she notices that this powerful Pikachu is the only thing that Team Rocket's boss would want. The mecha explodes propelling Team Rocket and Wobbuffet off at the speed of light as Pikachu's thunderbolt has renewed Jessie's energy and passion.

After the brilliant electrical show, Pikachu faints and falls to the ground. Ash then takes his friend to the laboratory as Joshua confirms that Pikachu's electrical pressure has reached normal levels and a good rest is all that is required. Birch confirms that the mecha of Team Rocket must have absorbed all of Pikachu's unneeded electricity. May then stumbles in almost knocking over a vase as she introduces herself to Ash and they exchange greetings. She then questions how Pikachu is doing while Birch and Ash confirm that Pikachu will be as good as new.

The time has now arrived for May to choose her first pokemon as Ash is surprised at this event. Her first choice is Treeco. Ash asks if it is a water type but Birch explains that Treeco is a grass type. Treeco quickly frightens May as she thinks it is "creepy". Her second choice is Mudkip which is a Water type. Ash seems to be very fond of pokemon while May states that Mudkip wouldn't do one thing she asked it to do. Her third choice is Torchic which seems to really take a liking to May. She doesn't think Torchic is that bad and then chooses Torchic as her starter pokemon. Birch also gives May a pokedex and six pokeballs for her journey. Birch and Ash tell her that if she works hard she can become an even greater pokemon trainer than her father while she would give up pokemon anyday of the week for a trip around the world. May is very upset of what Pikachu has done to her bike and decides to go tell Ash what she is thinking but just as she opens the door she notices Ash and Pikachu quietly sleeping. She then feels sorry for Ash as he has been taking care of his Pikachu all night long. Ash then awakens with Pikachu greeting him in the morning.

May then steps outside and releases and greets Torchic. Ash then steps outside and May questions Ash if Pikachu is alright. Pikachu seems to have overcome its illness and is back to its old self. Pikachu then jumps from Ash's shoulder and sends a welcome and greeting to Torchic as they chase each other around playfully. The two pokemon seem to be getting along and Pikachu has found his first friend in the Hoenn Region. May then ponders about her charred bike but then decides that it doesn't matter now.

Birch tells Ash and May that they will have to register at the nearest Pokemon Center and it seems to be located in Ol Dale Town. May says that walking all that way alone makes her nervous and relays the idea that why doesn't her and Ash travel together since his Pikachu trashed her bike. Both of them seem to agree on the idea of travelling together while May seems to be joyous that she will now be travelling with Ash. Birch and Joshua confirm that it is a good idea and to be careful on their journey. Now with Pikachu fully recovered, Ash and May can continue their journey together in the Hoenn League dispite the mishaps and continue towards Ol Dale Town.
