The game starts off in Ash's house. Go downstairs and say good-bye
to your mom before heading out to capture Pokémon. You can leave town by going north, but
before you can enter the grassy fields, Prof. Oak will run up and stop you from going in.
He will tell you that there are wild Pokémon that could attack, and then you will both be
attacked by a wild Pikachu! Oak will capture it, then he will escort you back to his lab.
There, he will give Gary and Eevee and Ash the Pikachu. Gary will challenge you to your
first match.

Route 1
On your first journey into Route 1, you won't be able to capture any Pokémon. You can
only fight for experience. You can't purchase any Poké-balls until you deliver the
package to Prof. Oak. Wild Pokémon tend to live in grassy areas, so avoid tall grass if
your Pokémon is weak. Head north to reach Viridian City. You may also bump into other
Pokémon trainers. Some may only want to give you sage advice, but others may want to
fight!

Viridian City
Viridian City is only slightly
bigger than Pallet Town, with it's own Pokémon Center, Pokémon Mart, and a Gym. The Gym
is usually a busy hangout for Pokémon Trainers all over, but this one is closed (for
now). The friendly citizens will gladly help you out with any questions you have. Drop by
the Pokémon Center to heal your Pokémon, then head towards the Pokémon Mart. Once
inside, the clerk will ask you to take a package to Prof. Oak. Run back to Pallet Town and
deliver the package to get a Pokédex. As long as you're in Pallet Town, drop by Gary's
house and get a map from his sister. When you return to Viridian City, stock up on
Poké-balls and return to Route 1 to capture a few Pokémon. If you continue on to Route
2, buy a couple of Antidotes to cure any Poison attacks you will encounter.

Pallet Town
(revisited)
Give it to Prof. Oak and he will give you
and Gary each a Pokédex, which is an electronic encyclopedia. Your goal in the game is to
complete your Pokédex, and the only way to do that is to capture or have captured every
Pokémon in the game. Before heading for Route 1, goto Gary`s house to recieve a Town Map.
Viridian City
(revisited)
The gym's doors are locked, and
they won't unlock until you've beaten the other 7 Gym Trainers in the game. Remember to
buy PokéBalls before you leave.
Route 22
This route is the link between Victory Road and
Viridian City, show to the guard your 8 Kanto medals to go through Victory Road. Here you
will meet Gary, with these Pkmn:
Route 1 (revisited + optional)
If you want to catch some
Pokémon, go back to Route 1 with some PokéBalls.
Route 2
On your way north, you will see items on
the other side of the trees, but you won't be able to reach them (not yet). Route 2 has a
few Pokémon and trainers to worry about, but you should worry about the forest ahead.

Viridian Forest
There are lots of
trainers hanging around in the forest, so be sure to have at least three Pokémon in your
possession. As you wander around the forest, you will find items misplaced by other
trainers. If you find your Pokemon are getting weak, retreat back to Viridian City so they
can recover. Better to delay than have fainted Pokemon!

Pewter City
Pewter City is much bigger than Viridian City,
and it has a Pokémon museum as well. The museum has several interesting exhibits, but you
won't understand their meaning until later in the game. Return here when you've got the
CUT HM and cut the bush near the museum to find the Old Amber. Talk to the townsfolk to
learn more about the surrounding land, then head towards the gym to do battle with Brock,
the Gym Leader.
You must first battle Jr. Trainer before you
can take on Brock. The Jr. Trainer has a Digglet and a Sandshrew.
Then Brock will challenge you when you first meet him. He controls a Geodude and
an Onix, both powerful Rock Pokémon. And uless you've taught Pikachu some non-Electric
moves, Pikachu is almost worthless in battling the rocky monsters, so you'll need to have
several Normal-Type Pokemon. Be sure to have them all at at least Level 12. If you manage
to trade someone for a Water or Grass type via the Cable Club, build up and use that one
at the head of your party.
Boulder Badge: Power of all your Pokémon will increase a little bit. Also lets you use
FLASH outside of battle, provided you have taught the move to the Pokémon using the FLASH
HM.
Mt. Moon
The pathway to Mt. Moon is infested with
Pokémon Trainers, all looking for a fight. Try to have plenty of Pokémon with you to
handle anything thrown at you. A Pokémon Center will be conveniently neat the mountain
entrance, giving you a chance to heal your battered Pokémon. A man there will try to sell
you a Magikarp for 500$, but don't you think you can catch one elsewhere? Mt. Moon is the
breeding ground for Zubats, a poison/flying Pokémon that only come out in the darkness.
They tend to swoop down from the ceiling when you least expect it. If you have a Pikachu,
put him ahead of the pack, because its Thunder Shock will take down the Zubats with one
hit. Plenty of trainers are down here as well, trying to find rare Geodudes, but they will
take time out to challenge you. You will also encounter Team Rocket for the first time.
They are mining out minerals from Mt. Moon. Since they are expert Pokémon Trainers, you
should be very cautious when confronting them. If you find yourself in a sticky situation,
use the Escape Rope to get out of the cave immediately. You will also find lots of items
on the cavern floor.
You will encounter a Pokemaniac who has found two fossils and refuses to share. Defeat him
in a Pokemon battle and he will give you one. But that's not the end of it. Just before
you exit the mountain, who should show up but Jessie and James of Team Rocket! They will
demand you give them the fossil you won. Ekans, Koffing and their mascot Meowth are their
main Pokemon, but they are easy to defeat.
Route 4
You will find a few trainers and Pokémon on the path to Cerulean
City. It won't be too bad to find a TM dropped along the path as well. Keep in mind that
once you jump over the barrier, you won't be able to get back over.
Cerulean City
If you want a faster way to travel, the Bike
Shop has just the thing for you... for the low cost of only... 1,000,000$? You will also
find a house that has been ransacked by Team Rocket, but you won't be able to enter until
after you defeat Misty and cure Bill (on Route 25).
In the middle of the city is the Pokemon Spa, a place where injured Pokemon can come and
rest. The girl who cares for them, Melanie, has a Bulbasaur she would love to give to you,
but only if you have kept Pikachu happy and healthy. If Pikachu is all smiles, you'll get
Bulbasaur!
Misty is the leader of the Cerulean Gym,
and she loves water Pokémon. You can tell because the Gym is a huge indoor pool! Two
other Trainers will challenge you before you can take on Misty, but Pikachu or Bulbasaur
can blow them out of the water. Vs. Misty Misty likes to swim, but she simply loves to
battle. She packs Water Pokémon, a Staryu and a Starmite. Since you have Pikachu, you
will win this battle fairly quickly. Misty, rather impressed, will give you her Cascade
Badge and a TM 11 for a job well done.
Controls any Pokémon up to Level 30. Also allows you to use CUT out of battle, provided
you have the taught a Pokémon with the CUT HM
Routes 24 & 25
After you defeat Misty, the path to the north
will open up. But before you can go very far, Gary will show up once again to make
trouble.
Gary has added three Pokémon to his arsenal, a Spearow, a Rattata, and a Sandshrew.
Defeat Gary to send him off in a fit. As you continue onto the bridge, you will be
challenged by six members of Team Rocket. Their Pokémon are tough, so return to the
Pokémon Center after each battle to heal your monsters. When you defeat all six, you will
get a valuable Nugget as a reward. Sell it off to get 5000$. Continue to the east where
you will find even more Pokémon Trainers. Once you get past them, you will find the Sea
Cottage.
Further up, you will meet a boy who owns a Charmander. He feels he doesn't have the skills
yet to raise a Pokemon and will give him to you to care for it.
Poor Bill has turned himself into a Pokémon! If you help him out, Bill will give you a
ticket to board the S.S. Anne, a cruise ship for only the best Pokémon Trainers! While
there, be sure to check out his PC to learn about more rare Pokemon.
Vermilion City
Vermilion City is a huge port town, always busy
with activity. It's even more hectic today, because the great Pokémon trainer luxury
liner is docked at the bay! Aboard are the best trainers in the world! Talk to the old man
to hear his tales of the sea. He will give you the Old Rod for your time. In the center of
the city you will find Officer Jenny, who has been taking care of an abandoned Squirtle.
Once you defeat Lt. Surge she will give you Squirtle.
The long winded chairman will give a big speech about Pokémon. Stick around long enough
for the whole speech and he will give you a Bike Voucher, good for a free Bike back in
Cerulean City!
The leader of the gym is Lt. Surge, and he is a paranoid trainer. To reach him, you must
find two secret switches. If you find the first switch the second one is always nearby,
but if you don't find it, the switches will move. He also has three other trainers, who
will attack with electric Pokémon.

Vs. Lt. Surge Lt. Surge likes to use Electric Pokémon. He gets a real jolt out of them.
Puns aside, a built up Ivy-saur or Geodude is your best bet. The Lt. will have only one
Pokemon, Raichu, but it's at a very high level, Lv. 28. Once you defeat him, he will give
you the Thunder Badge and the TM24.
: The Thunder Badge will increase the speed of all your Pokémon a little. It will also
let you use FLY outside of battle, provided you have taught the move to a Pokémon using
the FLY HM.
S.S. Anne
The exclusive ship is for only the most prestigious trainers. Flash the Ticket you got
from Bill and step aboard! The word on the ship is that the Captain is seasick, and the
ship can't leave port until he is well. Once aboard the ship, be sure to enter every cabin
to search for items. However, some passengers won't be so pleased about being barged in
on! The passengers mostly carry Water Pokémon, so put Pikachu at the head of the party.
To gain the most experience possible, fight all the trainers aboard before you see the
Captain.
How did Gary hook passage on this ship? Before you can ask, Gary is using a fake French
accent and tossing Poké-balls at you. Slap the fake accent out of his mouth and continue
on to the captain. The Captain is suffering from seasickness and the ship can't launch
until he feels better. Help out the captain and he will be so grateful, he will reward you
with a Hidden Machine, which teaches the CUT ability! After you help the captain, keep in
mind that once you step off the ship, it will leave port for the open sea.
Vermilion City (revisited)
Go east to goto Route 11.
Route 11
After defeating Lt. Surge, the path to the east will open and you will be able to proceed
to Route 11. As you wander on the sidewalks, you will be challenged by no fewer than ten
trainers, each with up to four Lv. 20 Pokémon. The wild Pokémon found here are not very
strong, but they possess the power to make your monsters fall asleep! When you enter the
toll gate, you'll be warned that the road is blocked ahead by a sleeping Snorlax! As long
as you're here, you may as well go up into the observing tower. If you have 30 Pokémon,
you will get an Itemfinder from Prof. Oak's aide!
Diglett's Cave
Since Route 12 is blocked off, you will have to take a detour to Lavender Town. Return to
the entrance to Route 11 and enter the cave opening. This is also the only place you will
find Diglett and Dugtrio. They aren't terribly powerful, but there's a lot of them. You
will emerge back on Route 2, on the other side of Vermilion Forest, where you couldn't go
before. Go south to collect the items that you couldn't reach before. Inside the observing
tower, Prof. Oak's aide awaits to give you the FLASH HM... as long as you have 15
Pokémon! You'll need it to enter Rock Tunnel.
Cerulean City (revisited)
Go east and use Cut on the bush which leads to Routes 9 & 10 where the Rock Tunnel is.
Routes 9 & 10
There, you can find TM 30. On the end, there is a river that leads to the Power Plant. You
can`t go there until you have HM 03, which teaches Surf. In the same area as the Observing
Tower, you will find someone who will trade you a Clefairy for a Mr. Mime. What can you do
with a Mr. Mime? Maybe Mom could use it...
Rock Tunnel
You must have the FLASH ability to make your way through this dark cavern. Though it's not
nearly as confusing as Mt. Moon, you still have your work cut out for you in Rock Tunnel.
This cave is mostly about endurance. Dangerous Machops and Onixs will constantly try to
grind your monsters into gravel and Zubats swoop down to take a bite out of smaller
victims. If that weren't enough, over 15 trainers await to challenge you. Most trainers
will have Rock-Type Pokémon, so put a Plant Pokémon at the head of your group. Be sure
to bring along a Diglett with the DIG ability. If you find yourself low on life out of
battle, you can use the DIG ability to escape the cave. If you don't have a DIG ability,
you can use an Escape Rope, available at all find Pokemarts. This works in any cave or
building. Once you find the exit, you still have to get past a few more trainers before
you reach Lavender Town.
Lavender Town
In the northeast section of the town there is a big building, Pokémon Tower. In order to
identify and fight the ghosts in the tower, you need the Silph Scope, which you can get in
basement of the Game Corner in Celadon City after you defeat Giovanni. Come back here when
you have the Silph Scope.
Route 8
Instead of going south, go west to goto Route 8, that leads to the Undergound Path to
Celadon City.
Route 7
You`ll come to Route 7, which contains a lot of Pokémon in the grassy area. This leads to
Celadon City, which you need to go to get a Silph Scope.
Celadon City
Celadon is the biggest city in the whole
game of Pokémon. You will need to come to this city many times. You can get an Eevee by
way of a back entrance to the Game Freak, Inc. building. Just goto the opening near the
entrance you came from the Underground Path. Keep going until you meet a building, which
is the Celadon Mansion. There is a hidden door behind it. Go in and walk to the top and
get Eevee!! Use a stone from the PokéMart to evolve him into a Jolteon, a Flareon, or The
Gym Leader, Erika, caters to Plant-type Pokémon. Beat her and get a TM that contains the
best Plant attack.
Game Corner
Goto the Game Corner and talk to the Team Rocket member guarding a poster. Defeat him and
press A at the poster to reveal a switch to Game Corner`s basement. Stumble through the
Game Corner and defeat Giovanni to recieve his Silph Scope.
Pokémon Tower
After defeating all the Team Rocket
members in the tower (And Channelers, they`ve been cursed, if you didn`t know that.), you
can save Mr. Fuji from them. He will give you the PokéFlute at his house. Go west from
Lavender Town and you will find the underground passage to Celadon City.
Celadon Department Store
In this store you can buy many items, including Stones that will evolve your Pokémon,
TMs, ability enhancers, etc. You should evolve all your Pokemon through the stones. On the
roof level, pick up two Fresh Waters, one Soda Pop, and one Lemonade. Give one of each to
the thirsty girl and she will give you 3 TMs.
Game Corner (Optional)
You can play the slot machines here, but you need a Coin Case and coins to play a slot
machine. The Coin Case is located at the Diner, which is next to the Warehouse (If you
don`t understand, it`s below the Game Corner.)Some of the people playing will give you
coins. You can also buy coins, 50 of them for 1000. Also, walk around hitting A and you
will find more coins. You can get TMs and Pokémon by trading in your coins at the Prize
Exchange.
Celadon City
Go west from Celadon City. On this road, a Snorlax is sleeping, and you must wake him up.
If you have the PokéFlute, you can wake him up and fight him. Before you get to the
Snorlax, you will notice a bush that leads to another road. Cut it down and go up and
left. Go through the building and into the house you find. The girl inside will give you
HM 02, which contains Fly.
Saffron City
At first, the gate guards will not let
you through the gates. First go to Celadon City Department Store, get something drink from
a vending machine on 6th floor (there are 3 kinds, any will do), and go to the gate and
give him the drink. There are 2 Gyms in this city. One of them is Saffron Dojo, where you
can get Hitmonlee, the kick devil, or Hitmonchan, the punch devil. The other is Saffron's
Gym, but first, there is a man in front of the Gym. In order to enter the Gym, you need to
go to Silph Company, the biggest building in Saffron City, and defeat all Rocket Gang
members in it and you get a Master Ball. After conquering Silph Company, you can enter
Saffron Gym. The gym leader is Sabrina, who uses Psychic Pokémon. Also, after doing so
the girl in the house at left will trade you Technical Machines for PokéDolls.
Silph Co.
There are many Items and Rocket Gang
members in here. Adding to it, you need to jump from point to point. You also need the
Card Key to open doors. After defeating Giovanni, talk to the sitting man and he will give
you Master Ball. It has a 100% chance of catching. Only use it for important Pokémon
(Mewtwo).
Route 12
Enter Route 12 from Lavender Town. Wake the Snorlax and capture it. Don`t worry, if you
missed it, or made a mistake, there is another Snorlax. There is one item on a platform,
but you can only reach it bu using Surf. Enter the house near the end. Talk to the man and
he will give you the Super Rod, the best rod ever.
Fuchsia City
Head North to the Safari Zone. Also, the warden of Safari Zone will reward you with the HM
04 if you give him the Gold Teeth. (Found in Safari Zone)
Safari Zone
At the end of Safari Zone there is a cottage called the "Secret House" where you
will get HM 03 from a man inside. HM 03 contains Surf. Check everywhere to get the Gold
Teeth. You can catch Safari Zone Pokémon by only using a Safari Ball. Make it stay by
letting it eat. Make it mad and a little more easier to catch by throwing a rock.
Fuchsia City (revisited)
.
Give the Gold Teeth to the
warden. If you want, go next door to recieve a Good Rod. Defeat Koga to recieve a badge
and a TM
Cycling Road
This is a cycling road so you need the Bike to go through. If you don't have the bike, go
to Vermilion City and get the Bike Voucher from the Pokemon Fan Club president. Then go
back to Cerulean City and get a Bike. In the second floor of the Watchhouse, there is
another of Prof. Oak`s aides. Talk to him and recieve a Exp. All if you caught more than
50 Pokémon. The Exp. All splits Exp. Points to other Pokémon even if they don`t fight.
Power Plant (Optional)
Cross the water after you get out onto the other side of the Rock Tunnel. There are lots
of Electric Pokemon in here. Also here is Zapdos, one of the Legendary Birds. To catch
Zapdos, weaken him and use a Ultra Ball. Tip: Save your game before fight.
Seafoam Islands
Cross the water after you get to Fuchsia City. Many Water Pokemon reside here, and it's a
good chance to add to your collection. This is where Articuno, the Ice Bird is. Move
boulders to the hole until they fall to the river so the current will stop. This will lead
you to Articuno. Tip: Save your game before fighting Articuno.
Cinnabar Island
South of Pallet Town is Cinnabar
Island. Enter the Pokémon Laboratory and get some new Pokémon. Depending on what fossil
you got in Mt. Moon, you can get Kabuto or Omanyte. You can also get Aerodactyl if you
picked up the Old Amber in Pewter City's museum. Beat the Gym leader, Blaine and head
north back to Viridian City.
Viridian City (revisited)
Here is the final Gym. After beating Giovanni, go west to the Pokémon League HQ.

Route 22 (revisited)
This route is the link between Victory Road and
Viridian City, show to the guard your 8 Kanto medals to go through Victory Road
Victory Road
To pass here you will need the moves from HM 03 and HM 04. This is where you find Moltres,
the Fire Bird.
Indigo Plateau
Here is a PokéCenter and a PokéShop in one. Go though the door at the top
to fight the Elite Four, a group of the most powerful trainers ever. All their Pokémon
are over LV. 50, so be prepared. After facing the Elite Four, you will come up against
Gary. Beat him and you will be the best Pokémon Trainer ever!
Unknown Dungeon
After
you have beaten the Pokémon League, go back to Cerulean City. Northeast of Cerulean City
in a cave is Mewtwo, the best Pokémon. I believe he is at LV. 70. It is possible to catch
Mewtwo without the Master Ball. You only see him once in the whole game! Make him faint
and you're out of luck... Tip: Save the game right in front of Mewtwo, so if you make him
faint or you mess up in any way, you can just reset the game and try again.
